Our commitment to accessibility

 

At Wheelie Good Show, accessibility isn't an afterthought – it's at the heart of what we do.

Our aim is to make theatre information easier to find and understand for everyone, with a particular focus on helping disabled and wheelchair-using theatre-goers make informed decisions about visiting theatres and shows.

We want our website to be accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of disability, access requirement, technology or method of browsing.

 

Accessibility standards

 

We are working towards meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA wherever reasonably possible.

WCAG is an internationally recognised accessibility standard covering the needs of people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, hearing, physical, speech, cognitive and neurological disabilities.

What we're doing to make Wheelie Good Show accessible

 

We aim to make the website:

• easy to navigate using clear and consistent menus, headings and page structures;

• usable with keyboard navigation wherever possible;

• compatible with commonly used assistive technologies;

• readable with appropriate text sizes, spacing and colour contrast;

• usable when content is enlarged or viewed on different screen sizes;

• understandable through clear, straightforward language;

• accessible through meaningful link and button labels;

• supported by alternative text for meaningful images where appropriate;

• designed so that important information isn't communicated through colour alone;

• accessible on desktop, tablet and mobile devices;

• designed with sufficiently large and clearly identifiable interactive controls.

Accessibility is considered when new pages, theatre guides and features are added to Wheelie Good Show.

 

Theatre accessibility information

 

Wheelie Good Show provides accessibility information about theatres and productions to help visitors plan their trips.

This can include information about wheelchair spaces, wheelchair transfer seats, step-free access, accessible toilets, lifts and stair lifts, assistance dogs, accessible entrances, seating, accessible public transport and other potential access considerations.

We aim to present this information clearly and consistently.

However, theatre access arrangements can change, and individual access requirements vary considerably. Information provided by Wheelie Good Show should therefore be used as a guide rather than a guarantee of accessibility.

Where appropriate, we recommend contacting the theatre or venue directly before booking or travelling if you have specific access requirements.

 

Images and visual content

 

We aim to provide appropriate alternative text for meaningful images so that their purpose or content can be understood by people using screen readers.

Purely decorative images may not require descriptive alternative text.

Where an image contains information that is important to understanding a page, we aim to provide that information in an accessible form rather than relying solely on the image.

 

Video, podcasts and social-media content

 

Wheelie Good Show includes video, podcast and social-media content and may embed content from third-party platforms including YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

We aim to make content we create as accessible as reasonably possible. However, some embedded third-party content and the controls provided by external platforms may not be fully within our control.

Where possible, we will seek to provide accessible alternatives or additional information when third-party content presents an accessibility barrier.

 

Third-party websites

 

Wheelie Good Show contains links to theatres, ticket providers, transport services and other external websites.

We cannot control the accessibility of third-party websites and are not responsible for their accessibility.

We will, however, try to direct visitors towards useful and accessible information wherever possible.

 

Known accessibility limitations

 

Wheelie Good Show is continually being developed and improved.

There may therefore be areas of the website that do not yet provide the level of accessibility we would like.

Potential limitations may include older content, embedded third-party content, certain interactive Wix components or content that has not yet been fully optimised for assistive technology.

We are actively working to identify and improve accessibility issues as the website develops.

We do not currently claim full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance unless and until the website has been appropriately tested against the standard.

Our goal isn't simply to provide accessibility information about theatres. We also want the Wheelie Good Show website itself to demonstrate the inclusive approach we advocate for across the theatre industry.
