Wyndham's Theatre

Booking

Booking was easy and made by online using the Delfont Macintosh website.  I had already registered for their carer scheme.

There is a free carer ticket and an access rate so the ticket prices were very reasonable.

Access Ticket: £25

Carer Ticket: Free

Theatre Location

Centrally located in the heart of the West End.

There are lots of transport links and accessible restaurants located near by including a food hall and Covent Garden.

Theatre Access

We were seated in the removable seat section at the back of the stalls and access to this was via a side door.

Any access host meets you at the door and escorts you around. This area contained the accessible toilet.

To access the stalls there was a small platform lift but there was no rails or sides so if you may need assistance to ensure you don't go too far off the lift.

The door to this area is onto the main road and the box is locked form the outside. This area used to be a box and we were unable to open the box from the inside. It has now been redesigned to be open into the stalls.

The access host was excellent.

They met us at the front door and held the queue whilst they escorted us into the stalls area via the lift.

They checked on us in the interval and at the end of the show.

They were genuinely interested in feedback of our experience.

We sat in a box SBA1 and SBA2.

There were only to two of us in the box but the access host explained that it was suitable for two wheelchairs and two carers.

In my opinion two wheelchairs especially (power chairs) would make it impossible to access the bathroom without one leaving the box (via the lift) and would be a tight fit.

The box itself had a good view but as it was at the back it was very difficult to hear some of the dialogue. For one character in particular it was incredibly hard to hear their dialogue despite my hearing being fine.

There was also a lot of noise from the street behind the box. There were significant gaps around the door and the street sound was incredibly loud and distracting.

The toilet was located in the c the box. It was quite tight and you would not be able to side transfer.

The door is also tricky to open as it fold inwards then outwards.

As the only access to the toilet was from the box it was also private with only those in the box being able to use it. This was fine with just two of us but if there were two wheelchair users one would need to exit the box to provide enough space for the far side user to access the toilet.

I visited in April 2024 and all views expressed above are my personal opinion.

It was my first visit to Wyndham Theatre
