Just For One Day at The Old Vic

Booking

Booking was easily made via  The Old Vic website. You do need to have previously registered for access tickets to be able to book wheelchair seats.

Our first date was cancelled and we were invited to rebook. I called the booking line and was given the same seats on a different date.

Access Ticket £25

Essential Carer Ticket £25

Theatre Location

The location in at the back of Waterloo station near the Southbank which is still convenient and centrally located but away from the West End.

There are plenty of accessible restaurants on Southbank but closer to the theatre accessible options are more limited.

Theatre Access

Access to the theatre is via a side door on Webber Street. There is a lift to the stalls.

There is a bar on stalls level and a lift to a lower bar however these get very busy during the intervals.

My career accessed the bar on my behalf so I have not attempted to access the bar myself.

Access Host

Seat and Staging

Toilets

The access host service was polite and showed us to our seats.

During the interval she was incredibly helpful with accessing the toilet and waited to escort us back.

At the end of the performance a security guard helped escort me through the theatre to the lifts which was very helpful.

We sat in M33 and M34.

The wheelchair space (M34) was great. I could see the whole performance and I was not blocking anyone behind me.

The only minor issue was that as it was at the end of an aisle it blocked both the entrance to the row I was in and the row behind. This meant that whilst people were entering or exiting I was moving backwards and forwards to allow access. However once the performance started there were no problems at all.

The toilet was located very at the opposite side of the stalls. Access was via a very tight corridor and the door into the toilet was tight.

Toilet itself was tiny. Barely big enough to fit a compact chair and with no turning space. I got my chair caught trying to exit the toilet doors. My carer had become distracted so it was a struggle alone.
